Grant Cruikshank ripped the twine twice, while Nicholas Jones collected the winner as the Penticton Vees downed the West Kelowna Warriors 3-1 Friday night.
The victory over the defending RBC Cup champs completes the Vees’ seven-game road trip in September with them going 6-1.
The Vees scored early as Cruikshank deposited his fifth of the season with newcomer James Miller picking up the assist with Ty Amonte. Nearly two minutes later, Jones made it 2-0 after Ryley Risling set him up at 4:52 to beat Xavier Burghardt, who was chased from the crease after facing seven shots.
Penticton’s Shane Farkas entered the Warriors goal and finished with 27 saves. Mitch Meek set up Cruikshank for his sixth goal. Reed Gunville got to Vees goalie Mat Robson 57 seconds into the third period. Assists went to Connor Sodergren and Jake Harrison. Robson made 24 saves for his fifth victory.
The Vees went one-for-four on the power play, while the Warriors went 0-for-four.
The Vees will play their first game at the South Okanagan Events Centre this season against the Trail Smoke Eaters at 6 p.m.
