VIBI wins one on Interior road swing

Nanaimo’s Vancouver Island Baseball Institute won one of four games on a road trip to Kamloops this past weekend.

The VIBI Mariners gave up too many runs and didn’t score enough themselves.

Nanaimo’s Vancouver Island Baseball Institute won one of four games on a road trip to Kamloops this past weekend. VIBI started with a 3-2 win against the host Thompson River University WolfPack, but TRU won the rematch 9-1 and then the Okanagan Coyotes swept the M’s 12-8 and 10-0.

In VIBI’s victory, Tyler Armstrong’s RBI double in the top of the ninth held up as the game-winning hit. Austin Penner threw a complete game, striking out five.

In the rematch, Dylan Pisio had two hits for the Mariners.

In the first game against the Coyotes, nine different Mariners hit safely, with Lucas Galloway going 4-for-5 and Armstrong adding two hits.

In the finale, Carver Krafchuk went 3-for-3.

GAME ON … VIBI travels to play Prairie Baseball Academy in Lethbridge, Alta., from Saturday to Monday (April 30-May 2).
