Abbotsford’s Bev Viger is being honoured for her many years of outstanding contributions to the sport of figure skating, as one of two recipients of a 2014 ProMotion Plus In Her Footsteps award.

Viger and Delta’s Joy Fera will be honoured at the In Her Footsteps awards presentation Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club.

The Celebrating BC Women in Sport event honours women who are or have been athletes, coaches, officials or advocates who have made significant contributions to women in sport. Their stories are featured in the In Her Footsteps exhibit at the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

Viger has earned a worldwide reputation as a top figure skating official and has worked diligently to support the sport provincially, nationally and internationally. She acted as competition manager for the highly successful figure skating event at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and was a consultant in a similar capacity at the 2006 Torino Olympics. She was a member of the technical team at the 2001 World Championships in Vancouver and 2006 Worlds in Calgary. She was also competition manager for the 2013 National Synchronized Skating Championships in Burnaby, and in October will take the lead as technical delegate at the International Skate Canada Grand Prix in Kelowna.

A member of the Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame in the builder category, Viger is currently the competition manager for the Skate Canada BC-Yukon section.
