A VIU Mariners player had a monster game to lead his team to a road win.
Usama Zaid scored 49 points and added 12 rebounds as the Mariners men’s basketball team defeated the Quest Kermodes on Friday. According to VIU athletics, 49 points is a new school record; former star guard Brandon Jones held the previous mark of 43.
Zaid had 35 points and 13 boards the next day as the M’s lost 95-94 to the Langara Falcons.
Bryson Cox scored 17 points for the Mariners against the Kermodes and 27 the next day at Langara. Montell Lindgren added 13 in the loss.
The Mariners women won both their games, 67-43 versus Quest and 61-39 against Langara. Emily Clarke had 19 points in Friday’s win and led her team with nine rebounds. Sienna Pollard scored 18 and Avery Snider scored 11.
The next day, Pollard led her team with 17 points and Clarke was top rebounder with 10.
GAME ON … VIU’s men’s and women’s basketball teams play just one game each this coming weekend as they visit the Columbia Bible College Bearcats in Abbostford on Friday (Nov. 18).
