Langford resident Savannah Purdy named to national development team

Savannah Purdy and Olivia Godek came out on top at the U16 provincial beach volleyball championship in Vancouver on Sunday.

Purdy, who finished second the past three years in a row, and Godek didn’t lose a game on their way to the title.

Hannah May and Erin Mutch finished fourth in the U16 division while Gracie May and Taylee Pomponio finished second in the U15 division.

It’s been a hectic summer for Purdy, a Langford resident, who has been away for 25 days of high level training.

She won the indoor volleyball national team title with a win in the finals against Ontario earlier this year. Purdy was also one of 13 players selected from across Canada to the U17 Team Canada youth national development team. Purdy completed a week of training overseen by Volleyball Canada at the University of British Columbia that included top coaches from across the country.
