Langley's Carley Radomski and Shelby Beck team up on winning goal in Canada West semifinals

A pair of Walnut Grove Secondary alum teamed up to send the Fraser Valley (UFV) Cascades through to the CIS women’s soccer national championships.

Playing in the Canada West Final Four championships on Friday night at TWU’s Rogers Field, Carley Radomski sent a slick through ball which found Shelby Beck in full stride. Beck chipped the ball past Alberta keeper Kelti Biggs and into the bottom corner of the net in the 71st minute for the only goal in a 1-0 Cascades victory.

“Honestly, it was relief – I just wanted to cry with excitement,” Beck said, reflecting on her emotions after the final whistle sounded.

“It was so cool just to know that we worked so hard this year and we get to go to nationals. It’s a really cool feeling.”

“I couldn’t have done it without Dom (Radomski) and Monika (Levarsky),” Beck said.

“Our whole team played amazing. It was a perfect through ball, and all I had to do was put it in the corner.”

The Cascades lost to the Trinity Western Spartans 2-1 in the Canada West gold medal game on Saturday night. Beck had the lone UFV goal in the loss.

The top two Canada West teams qualified for the CIS national championships, (Nov. 6 to 9)π at Laval University in Quebec City.

Fraser Valley plays the Memorial Sea-Hawks, the Atlantic University Sport champions, in the quarter-finals.
