Just one of four Langley junior boys basketball teams made it out alive from the opening round of the Fraser Valley championships on Monday (Feb. 18).
The third-seed Walnut Grove Gators, the Langley district champions, held the No. 30 Samuel Roberts Technical Titans to 16 points in a 53-16 victory.
The win puts the Gators into the round of 16 where they will face the No. 19 Robert Bateman Timberwolves on Feb. 20. That game will be at Walnut Grove Secondary at 5 p.m.
Should the Gators win, they will advance to the Fraser Valley championship round, which will be contested at WGSS Feb. 21 to 23.
But while Walnut Grove advanced from the single elimination portion of the tournament, the same could not be said for the No. 11 Brookswood Bobcats, No, 25 Langley Christian Lightning or the No. 26 Langley Fundamental Titans, who all lost on Monday.
The Bobcats were upset by the No. 22 Enver Creek Cougars 39-31 while the Lightning fell 70-41 to the No. 8 Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers. The Titans dropped a 68-21 decision to the No. 7 Semiahmoo Totems.
