The leading scorer for the North Okanagan Knights is back on the bench.
But, this time, in street clothes.
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League club welcomes Graham Watkins as an assistant coach, joining head coach Bryant Perrier behind the bench.
“Graham is passionate, dedicated and loves being involved in the game of hockey,” said Perrier. “He truly cares about people and I knew he will only want what is best for each and every player.
“He is going to bring experience to the dressing room from a player’s perspective, and will be a great go-between for myself and the player.”
Watkins, a native of Calgary, had 13-24-37 in 45 games last season for the Knights. He broke into the KIJHL in 2013-14 with the Grand Forks Border Bruins before finishing his career in Armstrong.
The Knights will hold their main training camp Aug. 19 to 21 at the Nor-Val Sports Centre.
The team is looking for any players born from 1996 to 2000, though players born in 2001 and 2002 are welcome to attend the camp for the experience.
Sign-up for camp is open on the team’s website, northokanaganknights.org. For more information, email Perrier at bryantperrier@yahoo.com.
The Knights will open their pre-season schedule Friday, Aug. 26, in Kelowna against the Chiefs and will host the Chiefs Sunday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. at Kal Tire Place in Vernon.
Billet families are needed by the team.
“These boys range in age from 16 to 20 and will be attending high school or college, or some may hold part-time jobs while they live in our community and represent our team while pursuing their hockey dreams,” said Perrier.
If you are interested in becoming a billet family, or would like more information, call Perrier at 250-488-0874, or email him at the address above.
