The Tamanawis Wildcats won the Fraser Valley Grade 8 boys high school basketball championship Feb. 27 in Maple Ridge.
The Wildcats, seeded number one in the 32-team tournament, edged the second-ranked Walnut Grove Gators 55-53 in the championship game.
Aminder Basra was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while Tamanawis teammate Sahil Dhami was a first-team all-star.
After a first-round win by forfeit, the Wildcats defeated the Thomas Haney Thunder 66-41 at Tamanawis Secondary Feb. 23. At the Fraser Valley tournament, they won 79-43 over Abbotsford Middle School, then topped the Clayburn Cougars 62-54.
