Langley’s Matthew Williams and Elizabeth Roman are off to Austria as part of Team Canada’s entry to the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games.
Williams is going as an athlete and will compete in speed skating while Roman is attending as a figure skating coach.
Williams has previously attended the Worlds as a Global Messenger as well as the Special Olympics Summer Games in basketball.
The nine-day competition takes place March 14 to 25 and will feature 3,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and 1,100 coaches from as many as 110 countries.
“The passion and skill level of our team is unmatched; we expect great results at these Games and, as always, a lasting impact on communities across the country,” said Marian Coulson, the Chef de Mission for Special Olympics Team Canada.
