VICTORIA – Get out and explore the province’s abundance of snowmobiling, cross-country and backcountry skiing, and snowshoeing sites and trails this winter.
Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC) offers hundreds of managed snowmobile, cross-country/backcountry ski and snowshoe areas throughout B.C.
“Recreation Sites and Trails BC’s snowmobiling, cross-country and backcountry skiing, and snowshoeing areas offer excellent recreation opportunities for families in and visitors to communities throughout B.C. – a safe and rewarding way to explore the province’s outdoors this winter,” said Steve Thomson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.
Provincial winter-use sites and trails are managed and maintained through partnerships with local recreation groups, community organizations, First Nations, local governments and forest companies.
Recreation Sites and Trails BC oversees 92 managed snowmobile areas, 50 cross-country ski areas, 40 backcountry ski areas and eight snowshoe-specific areas with local partner groups across B.C. Many cross-country ski areas also offer snowshoe trails.
Since 2009, RSTBC has invested more than $1 million in funding for winter-use recreation sites and trails, and approximately $500,000 for avalanche awareness, education and safety.
