It’s been tough slugging for the Westshore Wolves in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League’s South Division final.
The Wolves, who finished a solid second behind the Victoria Cougars in the regular season, have dropped the first three games of the teams’ best-of-seven series, by a combined score of 20-3.
Sunday’s game 3 saw the Cougars pound the Wolves 8-2 at the Archie Browning Sports Centre in Esquimalt. Westshore’s Clay Carson opened the scoring 3:03 into the first period, but it was all Cougars after that.
Victoria opened up period leads of 2-1 and 4-1 en route to the victory. Connor Krupa scored unassisted in the third for Westshore’s other goal. Eight different players scored for Victoria.
The Cougars can take a step toward their third straight VIJHL playoff title with a win tonight (March 10) at the Juan de Fuca Arena. The Wolves were bumped from their usual home at The Q Centre by the scheduled B.C. Hockey League game between the Victoria Grizzlies and Powell River Kings. Game time at JdF is 7 p.m.
Previous games in the Jr. B series saw the Cougars down the Wolves 4-0 at The Q Centre on Saturday night and 8-1 in the opener last Thursday in Esquimalt.
