In a back-and-forth championship final, the Langley Xtreme broke things open with a six-run fifth inning.
And that was the difference as the Xtreme, a group of 12-year-olds, defeated the South Delta Invaders 10-4 in the finals of the South Surrey/White Rock squirt B fastball tournament.
The Langley (2000) rep B girls fastball team was perfect on the weekend, using a balance of consistent defensive play with strong pitching and a potent offence.
The Xtreme posted round robin wins over South Surrey, Abbotsford, Cloverdale and Fleetwood to finish atop their pool and then beat the Cloverdale Fury in the semifinals.
Emma Owen, Kate Dolinski and Mackenzie Quinn combined on the mound to lead the pitchers through the weekend, while Quinn belted three home runs and Samantha Sanchez and Alyssa Northard hit solo shots.
Owen, Dolinski, Northhard and Chloe Jahn earned game MVP honours.
The team is made up of Abbey Wittenberg, Mikjayla Whelband, Lexus Vaughan, Samantha Serraglio, Kimberly Holliday, Emma Owen, Alyssa Northard, Chloe Jahn, Mackenzie Quinn, Samantha Sanchez, Kate Dolinski and Jessica Douglas.
