The Yale Lions demolished Lord Tweedsmuir in the AAA BC Provincial Championships Wednesday afternoon to book a place in the semifinals.

The third-seeded Fraser Valley Champion Lions were invincible in shutting out the Surrey school 46-0 during the first day of provincial rugby action at Rotary Stadium and Exhibition Field.

The Robert Bateman Timberwolves weren’t as lucky. The seventh-seeded squad were heavy underdogs heading into their game powerhouse St. George’s, who were ranked second in the province. The Timberwolves kept themselves in the game, but eventually fell 43-11.

St. George’s will move on to play Yale in the semifinal Thursday at 4:30 at Rotary Stadium. The game will also be streamed live at http://sportscanada.tv/highschool/index.php/rugby/bcss/2015.

The other semifinal will see top-ranked Shawnigan Lake take on Earl Marriott. The final goes Saturday at 5:45 p.m.

Bateman, meanwhile, will play Thursday at 3 p.m. and can still finish fifth if they win their two remaining games.
