The Yale Lions will play for bronze Saturday at the AAA senior boys provincial rugby championships.
The third-seeded Lions fell 37-0 to the second seed St. George’s at Rotary Stadium Thursday afternoon in a game that was closer than its scoreline.
After an early St. George’s try, the Lions battled back and nearly tied the game on several occasions. They were unable to get the ball over the try line, however, and St. George’s scored a late first half try, before putting the game out of reach in the second half.
The loss sets up a rematch of the Fraser Valley final with Earl Marriott secondary, after the Surrey school fell 46-3 to Shawnigan Lake School.
Robert Bateman, meanwhile, will play for fifth place in the province after beating Lord Tweedsmuir 29-19.
Bateman, who entered the tournament as the seventh seed, will face fifth-seeded Oak Bay.
Both Abbotsford teams will play their final games Saturday at 1 p.m., with Yale playing at Rotary Stadium and Robert Bateman at Exhibition’s east-most field. The final takes place at 4 p.m. at Rotary Stadium.
