Spring tackle football is proving to be a hit.
Football Nanaimo has nearly filled up registration for the program’s inaugural season, which starts next week.
Kids aged 8-14 are split into pre-atom, atom and peewee to form the Bombers, Lions and Broncos that will compete in the Greater Victoria Minor Football Association’s spring league.
Practices started last week and then the program really ramped up on the weekend as Football Nanaimo hosted a skills camp at May Richards Bennett Pioneer Park that was led by more than 20 coaches, including V.I. Raiders coaches and players. More than 60 players participated in the camp each day.
Only waiting-list spots are available on the pre-atom and atom teams, but are still a few roster spots open to interested peewee players aged 13-14. That team practises Tuesday and Thursday nights at Pioneer Park.
